This page contains four House Blessing Liturgical Texts.

Blessing the Foundation of a New Home

This Blessing the Foundation of a New Home text is from Byzantine Melkite Euchologion published by the Eparchy of Newton (Our Lady of the Annunciation (Al Bisharah) in Roslindale, MA), Roslindale, Massachusetts, United States. This book is available from Sophia Press, Eparchy of Newton (Our Lady of the Annunciation (Al Bisharah) in Roslindale, Massachusetts, United States).

Priest: Let us pray to the Lord.

Response: Lord, have mercy.

Priest: O Almighty God, who made the heavens in wisdom and established the earth on firm foundations, the Creator and Author of mankind: look down upon this your servant (handmaid) (Name), dependent upon You, who starts to build a house for his (her) dwelling under the dominion of your power. Establish this house on a firm rock and found it according to your divine word in the Gospel, so that neither wind nor flood, nor any other evil force may prevail against it. Graciously grant that he (she) may bring it to completion. Deliver those who dwell therein from every attack of the enemy.

For yours is the dominion, and yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory, of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spkit, now and always and for ever and ever. Amen.

Priest: Let us pray to the Lord.

Response: Lord, have mercy.

Priest: God our Savior, you willed to enter the house of Zaccheus for his salvation and the salvation of all who were in the house; now keep safe from all harm those who intend to dwell in this house, and who, together with us, unworthy though we are, offer You prayers and supplications. Bless their dwelling and preserve their life against all evil

For all glory, honor and worship, are your due, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, now and always and forever and ever. Amen.

Now, the priest sprinkles the house three times with holy water, each time saying.

May this house be blessed + in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Great Feast of the Holy Theophany of Lord, God and Savior, Jesus Christ Celebration House Blessing Prayer

From after the Liturgy of the Great Feast of the Holy Theophany of Holy God the Son within the Holy Trinity / Our Lord, God and Savior, Jesus Christ to the just before the Vespers of Clean Monday (the first day of Great Lent), homes are blessed.

Priest: Let us pray to the Lord.

Response: Lord, have mercy.

May Christ our True God, who acepted to be baptized by the Holy Prophet John in the Jordon River and who, upon entering the house of Zacchaeus blessed all who were there, bless now this house and all who dwell in it. Grant them health, strength and salvation, peace and prosperity; and grant all their petitions that are for their salvation and for everlasting life. Amen.

O God of all spirits and of all flesh, who have destroyed death, overcome the devil, and given life to the world: grant, O Lord, to the souls of your servants Bucky and Shirley, who has departed from this life, that it may rest in a place of light, in a place of happiness, in a place of peace, where there is no pain, no grief, no sighing. And since You are a gracious God and the Lover of Mankind, forgive him/her every sin he/she has committed by thought, or word, or deed, for there is not a man who lives and does not sin : You alone are without sin, your righteousness is everlasting, and your word is true. You are the Resurrection and the Life, and the repose of your departed servants Bucky and Shirley. O Christ our God, and we send up glory to You, together with your eternal Father and your all-holy, good and life-givng Spirit, now and always and for ages upon ages. Amen.
