On the Fifth Sunday of Great Lent, Our Venerable Mother Mary of Egypt is commemorated to remind us that no one is so sinful that Holy God cannot touch their hearts and bring them to repentance and salvation. We honor Our Venerable Mother Mary of Egypt as a great example of a person who lead a life of sin, experienced Holy God's love, repented, and then converted from a to a life of holiness and repentance.
Our Venerable Mother Mary of Egypt is commerated on the last Sunday of Great Lent as we approach the time of Holy God the Son within the Holy Trinity / Our Lord, God and Savior, Jesus Christ's suffering and death.

Apostolos

Hebrews 9:11-14 The Apostolos explains the saving effect of Holy God the Son within the Holy Trinity / Our Lord, God and Savior, Jesus Christ's sacrifice of his own blood to take away our sins.

Gospel

Mark 10:32-45 Holy God the Son within the Holy Trinity / Our Lord, God and Savior, Jesus Christ's forewarned to his followers about his Passion and death. This Gospel also tells the story of how James and John asked to be seated next to Holy God the Son within the Holy Trinity / Our Lord, God and Savior, Jesus Christ's in glory, to which He replied that they didn't know what they were asking, because to share in His glory they would have to share in His suffering. Finally He explains: "Whoever wishes to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wishes to be first among you must be the slave of all. For the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."

Christ, the power of your Cross has worked wonders for Mary of Egypt. She had been a harlot and has now become an example and ideal of ascetic life. Casting off the weakness of nature, she has bravely fought Satan. Now, as a saint in heaven, she has obtained the prize of victory and intercedes for our souls.

Melkite Greek Catholic Church Information Center is dedicated to my cousins: Bucky (Richard C. Liles), Shirley (Shirley Jean Liles Buck), and Donna (Donna Bertha Liles Campbell). O God of all spirits and of all flesh, who have destroyed death, overcome the devil, and given life to the world: grant, O Lord, to the souls of your servants Bucky and Shirley, who has departed from this life, that it may rest in a place of light, in a place of happiness, in a place of peace, where there is no pain, no grief, no sighing. And since You are a gracious God and the Lover of Mankind, forgive him/her every sin he/she has committed by thought, or word, or deed, for there is not a man who lives and does not sin : You alone are without sin, your righteousness is everlasting, and your word is true. You are the Resurrection and the Life, and the repose of your departed servants Bucky and Shirley. O Christ our God, and we send up glory to You, together with your eternal Father and your all-holy, good and life-giving Spirit, now and always and for ages upon ages. Amen.
