Cosmas and Damian, Unmercenaries and Wonderworkers

1 July and 1 November - Saints Cosmas and Damian are also called the Holy Wonderworking Physicians Laboring Without Pay. They were born in Asia (probably from Syria or what is now Turkey) in the 4th Century. Cosmas and Damian devoted their lives to healing the sick. They had received from the Lord great skill in healing diseases and they refused to accept money for taking care of people. Tradition tells us that they were brothers and doctors who healed both people and animals with great skill and refused payment for doing so. They are called "unmercenary" or "moneyless" because they refused to accept payment for their healing services. They were constant companions, even in martyrdom by Emperor Maximianus early in the 4th Century. The Roman authorities executed them because they refused to renounce Christ and worship the Emperor. After they died, many miracles of healing were performed through their intercession, and many churches were built in their honor. They have two feast days: July 1 and November 1.

Transfer of the Remains of the Holy Hieromartyr Phocas, Commemoration of the Holy Prophet Ezechiel

23, The Remains of the Holy Hieromartyr Phocas were transferred to Constantinople during the Patriarchate of John Chrysostom (398-404)

The Holy Prophet Ezechiel was one of the four great prophets. He was exiled to Babylon under King Joconias in 598 BC. He prophesied for twenty-two years. The Holy Prophet Ezechiel prophesied about the destruction of Jerusalem to the Jews in exile in Babylon.

The Book of Ezekiel (1:10) in the Old Testament in the Holy Bible provides each of the four Evangelist his own figure.
"Their faces were like this: each of the four had the face of a man, but on the right side was the face of a lion, and on the left side the face of an ox, and finally each had the face of an eagle." Theses figures are applied to the author of the Gospel according to how each Gospel begins.
These figures determine the order of the Gospels in the New Testament in the Holy Bible. The Gospels are listed in the same order as the figures are listed in the Book of Ezekiel.

Holy Great-Martyr Christina

24 July - Holy Great-Martyr Christina was named after Christ (Holy God the Son within the Holy Trinity / Our Lord, God and Savior, Jesus Christ) and was the daughter of a Roman army officer. Holy Great-Martyr Christina was martyred in Tyre of Phoenicia in the year 220.

The Dormition of Holy Ann, the Mother of The Theotokos

25 July - Holy Ann

The Holy Hieromartyr Hermolaus and the Holy Woman Martyr Paraskeva

26 July - Holy Hieromartyr Hermolaus was martyred in Nicomedia in 312. The Holy Woman Martyr Paraskeva was martyred in Rome in 140. The Holy Hieromartyr Hermolaus and the Holy Woman Martyr Paraskeva are venerated as powerful intercessors for healing through the power of Holy God.

Holy Great-Martyr Panteleimon the Unmercenary Physician

27 July - Panteleimon, the student of St Hermolaus, was beheaded in the year 305 for practising the Christian faith while healing the sick. He refused payment for his medical services so he was a holy unmercenary healer. The reason was because his skill was a gift from Holy God to be used for the good of others.

Holy Apostles the Deacons Prochor, Nicanor, Timon & Parmenas

28 July - Holy Apostles the Deacons Prochor, Nicanor, Timon & Parmenas. These were among the first seven deacons chosen by the Apostles to help them serve the first Christians in Jerusalem.

O God of all spirits and of all flesh, who have destroyed death, overcome the devil, and given life to the world: grant, O Lord, to the souls of your servants Bucky and Shirley, who has departed from this life, that it may rest in a place of light, in a place of happiness, in a place of peace, where there is no pain, no grief, no sighing. And since You are a gracious God and the Lover of Mankind, forgive him/her every sin he/she has committed by thought, or word, or deed, for there is not a man who lives and does not sin : You alone are without sin, your righteousness is everlasting, and your word is true. You are the Resurrection and the Life, and the repose of your departed servants Bucky and Shirley. O Christ our God, and we send up glory to You, together with your eternal Father and your all-holy, good and life-givng Spirit, now and always and for ages upon ages. Amen.
