Holy Mysteries

Return to Holy Mysteries page

Holy God the Son within the Holy Trinity / Our Lord, God and Savior, Jesus Christ gave us, through His Holy Catholic Church, seven Holy Mysteries.

These Holy Mysteries are encounters with Holy God through Holy God the Son within the Holy Trinity / Our Lord, God and Savior, Jesus Christ. They help us to be in union with Holy God. These Holy Mysteries help us to do something that we can not do on our own: "to become partakers of the divine nature" (2 Peter 1:4). All Holy Mysteries are administered by a priest.

A Holy Mystery is never a private, family "event." Each reception of a Holy Mystery is a celebration of the whole Catholic Church community.

The Holy Mysteries is one of the three things that unit us to Holy God

The three things that unit us to Holy God are Prayer, Fasting, and The Holy Mysteries.

The Word "Mystery"

The word "Mystery" written in Greek, transliteration, Latinized, and Anglicized.
"Mustêrion" is the transliterated form.
"Mysterium" is the Latinized form.
"Mystery" is the Anglicization form.
"Sacramentum" is the Latin translation of the word "Mysterium".
"Sacrament" is the The Latin Rite Anglicized of the word "Sacramentum".

Holy Myron

The Patriarch consecrates Holy Myron (a special mixture of oil and spices) for all the Melkite Greek Catholic Churches during Matins of Great and Holy Thursday, which is celebrated on Great and Holy Wednesday evening. Holy Myron is used for annointing in the Holy Mysteries.

Melkite Greek Catholic Church Information Center is dedicated to my cousins: Bucky (Richard C. Liles), Shirley (Shirley Jean Liles Buck), and Donna (Donna Bertha Liles Campbell). O God of all spirits and of all flesh, who have destroyed death, overcome the devil, and given life to the world: grant, O Lord, to the souls of your servants Bucky and Shirley, who has departed from this life, that it may rest in a place of light, in a place of happiness, in a place of peace, where there is no pain, no grief, no sighing. And since You are a gracious God and the Lover of Mankind, forgive him/her every sin he/she has committed by thought, or word, or deed, for there is not a man who lives and does not sin : You alone are without sin, your righteousness is everlasting, and your word is true. You are the Resurrection and the Life, and the repose of your departed servants Bucky and Shirley. O Christ our God, and we send up glory to You, together with your eternal Father and your all-holy, good and life-giving Spirit, now and always and for ages upon ages. Amen.
