Melkite Greek Catholic Church Information CenterThe Liturgy of the Presanctified Species or Liturgy of Our Father among the Saints Gregory the Theologian
The Liturgy of the Presanctified Species consists of the Office of Vespers followed by the Holy Mystery of Holy Communion. The Liturgy of the Presanctified Species is a penitential service offered on the fast days of Great Lent. The Liturgy of the Presanctified Species is used only during those days of Great Lent when there is no Consecration, that is when the Liturgy of Our Father among the Saints Basil is not used. The Holy Eucharist was consecrated during the Divine Liturgy of Our Father among the Saints Basil the Great on the previous Sunday.
On Feasts of the third Class, the Liturgy of the Presanctified Species is celebrated with Gospel and Epistle readings.
On Feasts of the Second Class, the Divine Liturgy of Our Father among the Saints John Chrysostom is celebrated.
